Disorienting Mirror Cabinet guide: thresholds and trade risks
The Disorienting Mirror Cabinet is an exchange, not storage. It totals the sell price of everything in its input, deletes the offer when you trade, and creates one randomized result: a single item, a small stack of one material, or occasionally a short set of related items. It never lets you choose a reward and it does not return unused value as change.
Reward-pool thresholds
| Total sell value offered | Pool selected | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Below 500 | No trade | The cabinet ignores the Trade button and your items stay where they are. |
| 500–4,999 | Low pool | 500 is the minimum offer that trades. |
| 5,000–14,999 | Mid pool | 5,000 is the next threshold up. |
| 15,000 or more | High pool | The high pool is still random, not a guaranteed high-value item. |
You can read the tier without opening the trade: the water in the cabinet’s sink changes colour as your offer crosses each threshold, and the tap runs only while the offer is at 500 or more.
| Total sell value offered | Sink water |
|---|---|
| Below 500 | Tap off, no water |
| 500–4,999 | Blue-violet (low pool) |
| 5,000–14,999 | Cyan (mid pool) |
| 15,000 or more | Magenta (high pool) |
What each pool can give
A trade first rolls a tier from the pool you reached, then rolls one result from that tier. Tier 1 is common materials and the tiers get rarer up to tier 6. A result is a small random quantity of one item, or a short bundle such as a weapon with its magazine and stock; every item in a bundle counts below. All chances are for one trade of that size.
Which tier you roll
| Tier | Low pool (500–4,999) | Mid pool (5,000–14,999) | High pool (15,000 or more) | Typical items |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 55% | 25% | 8% | Scrap Metal, Nut, Broken Wire |
| Tier 2 | 28% | 55% | 42% | Simple Circuit Board, Electronic Components, Waterproof Tarp |
| Tier 3 | 12% | 15% | 36% | Dog Tag, Fallen Leaf Tag, Blue Reagent |
| Tier 4 | 4.45% | 4.1% | 11.5% | Crystallized Biomass, Odd Mirror, Experimental Data |
| Tier 5 | 0.5% | 0.8% | 2.3% | Crystallized Biomass, Reactor Pod, Accordion |
| Tier 6 | 0.05% | 0.1% | 0.2% | Legend of the Crowning Sword - Game Time Card (Scratched), Legend of the Crowning Sword - Game Time Card (Intact), Birken Family Bank Black Card |
Offering more value moves the odds toward the higher tiers but never guarantees one. The low pool gives tier 1 or 2 in most trades; even the high pool gives tier 6 in only a tiny share.
Every item in each pool
Low pool (offer 500–4,999): 100 items
Mid pool (offer 5,000–14,999): 100 items
High pool (offer 15,000 or more): 100 items
One item has only a Chinese name in the game, so it is left out of the lists.
What a trade does
- Place the items you are deliberately willing to lose in the cabinet’s input.
- The cabinet sums their sell prices. Below 500 nothing happens; otherwise it selects the low, mid, or high reward pool.
- Trade clears the entire input, then produces one random result from that pool. The result is a single item, a stack of one material, or occasionally a short set of related items such as a weapon with its magazine.
The reward pools lean toward different tiers of materials and equipment, but each pool contains a weighted random selection. Offering more value after you have already reached a threshold does not buy a particular reward.
How to use it without wasting a trade
- Build the offer around a threshold. Offer at least 500 to trade at all. Stop at 5,000 or 15,000 once you have reached the band you want, unless you are intentionally discarding additional items.
- Keep crafting and research inputs separate. The cabinet consumes them just as readily as junk, and it will not know that you were one capacitor short of a project.
- Do not use it as temporary storage. The next trade permanently clears the input.
- Trade only for variance. It is useful when a random conversion is worth more to you than retaining those exact items; it is a bad place for a specific item you need later.
Mirror versus other Safe House fixtures
The Mirror Cabinet is the only one of the two bathroom fixtures that gives a result. The Safe House toilet’s Flush button simply destroys its contents. The Tutorial Level’s repairable toilet portal is a separate quest object altogether. See Safe House objects explained for the full fixture guide.
