Decoherent Reactor: corrupt gear on purpose, or dissolve it into Dimensional Residue
The Decoherent Reactor is a Safe House station with two modes. Enhance uses up a catalyst to make an ordinary weapon, attachment, piece of clothing, armour piece or backpack Corrupted on purpose, so it gains Corruption traits. Dissolve turns Corrupted equipment into Dimensional Residue. The catalyst depends on what you are corrupting: Green Essence is the one for clothing and armour, which the game calls defensive gear.
At a glance
- There are three catalysts, one for each kind of equipment. Dimensional Residue corrupts firearms, melee weapons and attachments. Green Essence corrupts clothing and armour. Edict of Finality corrupts backpacks.
- Each piece costs catalysts. A weapon, garment, armour piece or backpack costs 2. An attachment costs 1. Parts that are already Corrupted cost nothing.
- The result is already stabilized. It has no countdown, keeps the condition it rolled, and lists its traits straight away. The condition is random: 1 in 9 pieces comes out at 1 / 5 and the other four conditions are twice as likely each.
- Dissolve pays back twice what Enhance costs. A Corrupted weapon, garment, armour piece or backpack gives 4 Dimensional Residue and a Corrupted attachment gives 2. The Corrupted item is used up.
- Some equipment cannot be corrupted at all. See what the Reactor will not accept.
Which catalyst for which item
| Catalyst | Corrupts | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensional Residue | Firearms, melee weapons and attachments | 2 for each weapon, 1 for each attachment |
| Green Essence | Clothing and armour: helmets, masks, glasses, vests, chest rigs, gloves, shirts, trousers and boots | 2 for each piece |
| Edict of Finality | Backpacks | 2 for each backpack |
A catalyst only works on its own kind of equipment. A gun is judged by its receiver, so Green Essence will not corrupt a gun and Dimensional Residue will not corrupt a vest. The attachments on a gun are corrupted at the same time, and each one that can be corrupted is charged separately.
What it costs, and what Dissolve gives back
| Part | Enhance uses up | Dissolve gives |
|---|---|---|
| Firearm or melee weapon | 2 Dimensional Residue | 4 Dimensional Residue |
| Attachment (barrel, magazine, grip, stock, scope, muzzle and so on) | 1 Dimensional Residue | 2 Dimensional Residue |
| Clothing or armour piece | 2 Green Essence | 4 Dimensional Residue |
| Backpack | 2 Edict of Finality | 4 Dimensional Residue |
- Add up every part. A rifle whose barrel, magazine, stock and scope can all be corrupted costs 2 + 4 = 6 Dimensional Residue. Parts that are already Corrupted are skipped and cost nothing.
- Dissolve returns double what Enhance cost in Residue. A weapon corrupted with 2 Residue gives back 4 when it is dissolved. The Corrupted item itself is used up, so the round trip leaves you with the extra Residue and no weapon.
- Dissolve only pays in Dimensional Residue. Dissolving a Corrupted vest gives Residue, not Green Essence.
Using Enhance
- Open the Reactor and choose Enhance.
- Put the item in the equipment slot and the catalyst in the catalyst slot.
- Press Play the Music Sheet. The catalysts are used up and the item comes back Corrupted in the same slot.
When the button is greyed out, its text says why:
| Button says | What to do |
|---|---|
| Missing Equipment | Nothing is in the equipment slot. |
| Can't Enhance | Nothing in the item can be corrupted, or the catalyst is the wrong one for it. Check the table above. |
| Missing Material (have / need) | The catalyst slot is empty or holds too few. The first number is what you put in and the second is what the item costs. |
What you get
Every part that can be corrupted rolls its own condition and its own traits, so the parts of one gun can differ. The condition is one of five bands, and each band below 5 / 5 lowers the part's ordinary statistics by another 10%, as explained in the Corrupted guide.
| Condition | Ordinary statistics kept | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| 5 / 5 | 100% | 2 in 9 (22.2%) |
| 4 / 5 | 90% | 2 in 9 (22.2%) |
| 3 / 5 | 80% | 2 in 9 (22.2%) |
| 2 / 5 | 70% | 2 in 9 (22.2%) |
| 1 / 5 | 60% | 1 in 9 (11.1%) |
- There is no countdown. Unlike Corrupted loot, a part corrupted in the Reactor is stabilized from the start, so it never falls to a lower condition and never turns into Dimensional Residue by itself.
- Its traits show at once. The tooltip names each trait, because the part is already stabilized.
- You cannot choose the traits. Each part rolls one or two different traits from the pool for its kind of part.
- A poor roll can be improved. The Revertor raises condition on stabilized items too, using the steps and risk described in the Corrupted guide.
- A workbench will not take a Corrupted item as an ingredient until it has been reverted. Keep that in mind before corrupting something you plan to craft with.
Which traits you can roll
- Weapons and attachments: each kind of part has its own pool. See the trait tables for receivers, barrels, magazines, grips, stocks, scopes, muzzles and melee weapons.
- Vests and chest rigs: see the armour trait tables. Vests roll from 13 traits and chest rigs only from the two Expansion traits.
- Every other kind of clothing and backpack rolls from the short pools below. The numbers are the game's own descriptions. Several of these names are still marked as unfinished in the game's English text, so wording may change in an update, and a few traits have no English text yet and are not listed.
Helmets, masks and glasses
Corrupted with Green Essence. Each piece rolls one or two traits from a pool of 2.
| Trait | What the game says |
|---|---|
| Blind Window | Move speed +15% while no hostile AI targets you. The bonus expires after 4 seconds of targeting and returns when all locks end. |
| Oxygen Restriction | Stamina recovery -25%, stamina cost +25%, and Body, Cardio and Agility skill XP +50%. Multiple copies do not stack. |
Oxygen Restriction's "Body" skill is the Strength skill; Cardio and Agility keep their names.
Shirts and jackets
Corrupted with Green Essence. Each piece rolls one or two traits from a pool of 4.
| Trait | What the game says |
|---|---|
| Condensation Layer | After 3 seconds without attacking or taking damage, restores 0.8 health per second for 5 seconds, once per combat cycle. |
| Pocket Heater | Increases ambient temperature by 5°C within a radius of 3. |
| Pressure Adaptation | Taking damage adds 1 defense, up to 4 stacks. Removed on unequip. |
| Sealed Lining | Abnormal status duration -30%; received healing and health recovery -20%. Multiple copies do not stack. |
Sealed Lining shortens poison, wound infection, every kind of bleeding, both fractures, fire, Dimensional Overload and Somatization by 30%. It does not shorten Pain, Dizziness, Horror or the run-timer Corruption Overload.
Pocket Heater warms the wearer and every player within 3 units, and its 5 degrees become 5.5 with the Mystic talent. It only matters on maps with a temperature; see Temperature.
Trousers
Corrupted with Green Essence. Each piece rolls one or two traits from a pool of 2.
| Trait | What the game says |
|---|---|
| Depressurized Structure | Below 35% health, increases defense by 20% and reduces movement speed by 10%. |
| Dragging Fabric | Increases movement noise by 0.5. |
Movement noise only exists while you move. You make a sound of volume 2 every 0.4 seconds, and an enemy that is not already chasing something walks toward it when the volume minus its distance from you is at least the enemy's hearing value, so 0.5 more noise reaches 0.5 further. See Noise and hearing for each enemy's hearing.
Boots
Corrupted with Green Essence. Each piece rolls one or two traits from a pool of 5.
| Trait | What the game says |
|---|---|
| Inertial Stability | Reduces spread by 20% while moving faster than 4. |
| Momentum Slash | Increases melee damage by 10% while moving. |
| Stone Buddha | Adds 5 defense while stationary. |
Gloves and wrist items
Corrupted with Green Essence. Each piece rolls one or two traits from a pool of 8.
| Trait | What the game says |
|---|---|
| Returning Edge | Melee hits add 8% attack speed, up to 4 stacks, lasting 2 seconds. |
| Shell Break | Increases melee damage by 25% against targets below 40% health. |
| Switch Shooting | Automatically switch to the next firearm when the current firearm runs out of ammo. |
| Brust Discipline | Pistols, assault rifles, battle rifles and sniper rifles cannot aim. Semi-auto hits grant +10% ergonomics per stack, up to 5; at full stacks, fire rate +25%. Clears after 5 seconds without a hit or on weapon switch. |
Backpacks
Corrupted with Edict of Finality. Each piece rolls one or two traits from a pool of 3.
| Trait | What the game says |
|---|---|
| Horizontal Expansion | Adds 1 column to this container. |
| Vertical Expansion | Adds 1 row to this container. |
| Weightless | The backpack itself weighs nothing. Contents retain their weight. |
Using Dissolve
- Open the Reactor and choose Dissolve.
- Put the equipment in the grid. You can put in several pieces at once.
- Press the button. Every Corrupted part in the grid is used up and Dimensional Residue appears in the grid.
- Guns are taken apart. Parts that are not Corrupted come back to the grid as separate items, so a Corrupted receiver with a clean magazine gives you Residue and a loose magazine.
- Stabilized and unstable items both dissolve. Stabilizing Powder does not protect an item from the Reactor.
- Nothing is lost for lack of room. Anything that does not fit in the grid is dropped on the ground next to the Reactor.
What the Reactor will not accept
- Hotbar items: food, medicine and other consumables, books and armour plates cannot be corrupted. Plates inserted in a vest are not corrupted along with it.
- Waist items: every belt, hip pack and holster belt.
- Most accessories: scarves, ties, cloaks, shawls, binoculars and pins. Watches and wrist items can be corrupted.
- Keychains and safe boxes.
- Some weapon parts: pistol slides, rifle bolts, handguards, recoil pads, the WLF K 표준 레일 and the Deer Sinew Bowstring. On a gun that is being corrupted they are skipped and cost nothing.
Getting the catalysts and the Reactor
| You need | How to get it |
|---|---|
| Dimensional Residue | Dissolve Corrupted equipment in the Reactor. Enemies and loot also drop it; the item page lists the sources. One is also needed to build the Revertor. |
| Green Essence | Found in loot and on the ground and dropped by enemies; the item page lists the sources. You can also make it at a General workbench from 10 Stabilizing Powder, using the recipe the mission Extraction gives you. The same mission gives the reverse recipe: 1 Green Essence makes 10 Stabilizing Powder. |
| Edict of Finality | Make it at a General workbench from 20 each of Rune Bone b, Rune Bone d, Rune Bone p and Rune Bone q. The recipe comes from research that appears once you find the Note of Incomprehensible Symbols; see the Research Table guide. |
| The Decoherent Reactor | Build it in the Safe House from the materials on its page. Building it completes the mission 비간섭성 반응로. |
Green Essence is also an ingredient in The Valley's Wild, one of the meals that raises a stat for good.
