Safe House objects explained: toilet, mirror, workbenches, and more

The Safe House is more than a place to sort your inventory. Several ordinary-looking fixtures open different systems. This guide explains the ones whose behaviour can be confirmed, so you know where to spend materials and what to expect in return.

Bathroom objects

ObjectWhat it doesWhat it is not
ToiletA permanent disposal bin. Move unwanted items into it and press Flush to destroy every item currently inside. It gives no reward and does not produce replacement loot.It is not a recycler, storage box, vendor, or the repairable portal toilet used for the Tutorial Level exit.
Disorienting Mirror CabinetAn item-exchange machine. Put in items, then trade them for a random result from the mirror’s reward pool.It is not a storage cabinet and does not return the items you offer.

The Tutorial Level’s toilet becomes an exit portal only after its separate repair mission. That portal is a different system from the Safe House disposal toilet. Treat Flush as irreversible: it clears the toilet's contents rather than refreshing them. The one exception is the Wormhole Science talent: with it, each unit of an item flushed in a toilet outside the Safe House has a 25% chance to arrive in the Safe House toilet (details). Flushing the Safe House toilet itself always destroys its contents.

Bed: rest for extra stamina

Interact with a Bed to gain Well Rest, which raises your maximum stamina by 10 (from 100 to 110). Your current stamina rises with it. It also ends Tipsy and Drunk.

Using the bed

  • Use it just before a run. The timer counts down while you play, so it keeps running after you leave the Safe House.
  • Using it again restarts the timer. The bonus does not stack: it stays at +10 stamina and the time goes back to the full 10 or 15 minutes.
  • There is no cooldown. You can use the bed whenever you are in the Safe House.
  • Dying removes it. You need to rest again before your next run.
  • It sobers you up. Tipsy gives +10% melee damage, +2% movement speed and immunity to Pain, but switches off aim assist and makes your cursor wobble; Drunk slows your movement. See Alcohol: Tipsy and Drunk. If you want Tipsy for a run, drink after you rest.

Moving, storing and upgrading furniture

The build menu lets you rearrange the Safe House without rebuilding anything.

  1. Press G (the default key, which you can rebind) to open the build menu. It opens in safe areas such as the Safe House, not during a run.
  2. Point at a piece of furniture. It is highlighted.
  3. Left-click to pick it up. It follows your cursor.
  4. Press R to rotate it.
  5. Left-click to put it down, or right-click to cancel. A spot that overlaps something else is refused.

What can be moved

Every buildable or fixed Safe House fixture can be moved: the U.R.C. Terminal, Map Portal, Transmitter, Research Table, every workbench and station, every storage box, the Bed and Medium Bed, the Revertor, the Decoherent Reactor, the Toilet and the Disorienting Mirror Cabinet. Training dummies cannot be moved.

Upgrading

Storing

  • The Store button takes the furniture out of the Safe House and adds it to the build menu, where you can place it again. It costs nothing and returns nothing.
  • A storage box with items in it can be stored. The items stay inside the stored box and are there again when you place it. You cannot reach them while it is stored.

Quick Safe House routine

  1. Use the toilet only when you deliberately want to destroy unwanted items.
  2. Sort mission items and planned crafting inputs before using the mirror.
  3. Rest in the bed shortly before you leave, so the extra stamina covers your run.
  4. Use the workbench for known blueprints; check the research table for newly available progression.
  5. Revert Corrupted gear with the Revertor before trying to craft with it; Stabilizing Powder only stops the countdown.
  6. Only then use the exit portal when your loadout and supplies are ready.
