Selling items and earning credits: merchants, scrap recycling and the terminal shop

Wilderness merchants pay in Biomass for almost anything. The Safe House's scrap recycling pays credits for valuable items. Missions pay credits too, and credits buy supplies at the U.R.C. terminal. This guide shows which route suits which item.

The short version

  • Sell anything to a wilderness merchant for Biomass. They pay a hundredth of an item's sell price, so cheap items are worth little or nothing. See Wilderness merchants explained.
  • Recycle antiques and data items for credits. You receive the item's full sell price.
  • Missions are the other source of credits. Many pay thousands.
  • Spend credits at the U.R.C. terminal. Purchases are delivered to the transmitter, and the terminal does not buy items from you.
  • Corrupted items are worth double wherever you sell them, and cost double to buy.

An item's sell price is shown on its page. Selling a whole stack rounds once for the stack, so a stack of cheap items can be worth something when a single one is not. For example, one Bandage sells for 12, which a merchant rounds down to 0 Biomass, but a stack of 30 comes to 3 Biomass.

Scrap recycling

Use the transmitter's scrap recycling screen to hand over antiques and data items. The whole item goes in and you are paid its full sell price in credits. Recycling a new kind of item can also start a related mission.

Antiques and data items make up 107 of the items in the game. Anything not flagged this way cannot be recycled and has to go to a wilderness merchant.

Earning credits from missions

Completing a mission and collecting its reward adds the mission's credits to your balance. These are the largest payouts.

124 missions pay credits in total. Browse them all on the missions list.

Spending credits at the terminal shop

The U.R.C. terminal sells supplies for credits, and anything you order is sent to the transmitter for collection. You begin with the standard stock, and certain missions add more.

  • Prices vary. Each listing is priced between half and one and a half times the item's normal buy price.
  • The stock changes. After you extract from a run, the terminal rolls its listings and prices again.
  • Bundles are one purchase. A bundle puts several items in a single listing with one price roll for all of them. The more items it holds, the larger the discount on the total: none for one item, about 2% for two and 20% for ten.

These missions add stock to the terminal. Each stock list shows what can be rolled and the chance of each item:

What to keep before you sell

  • Keep materials that appear in recipes. Biomass, for instance, is both what merchants pay and what the Pure Biomass recipe consumes. An item's page shows its recipes and uses.
  • Sell expensive items to a merchant only when it has the Biomass to pay for them, or the sale is refused.
  • Do not rely on cheap single items for Biomass. Sell them as full stacks.
